Driving in Thailand

          For visitors, adhering to driving customs in Thailand and exercising caution are crucial. This includes wearing seat belts or helmets for safety, driving within the legal speed limits, following traffic signals and signs, and avoiding driving under the influence. These practices contribute to enhanced safety on the roads.

NEW THAI DRIVING LICENCE

Have to prepare the documents as follow

  1. Passport with visa (original and photo copy)
  2. Original present resident address in Thailand certify from embassy / immigration bureau (valid for 1 year) or work permit (with present resident address identified) and original photo copy
  3. Original medical certificate (5 diseases form) from clinic or hospital (valid for 1 month)
  4. Original and photo copy of invalid international driving license (1949 convention) or local driving license (translate in to English or Thai language and certify by embassy if it isn’t in English language)

Procedure

If you are disqualified in no.4 – full step following

  1. Check the documents
  2. Rint the application form
  3. If you are qualified in no.4 ->
    • take a training 1 hours
    • take a physical test
    • Take a training 5 hours
    • Take a physical test
    • Take a theory test
    • Take a practical test
  4. Pay the fee / take a photo and print driving license (fee 205 baht for car, fee 105 baht for motorcycle)

TEMPORARY (TWO YEAR) DRIVING LICENSE

IN CASE OF FOREIGNER RENEW THAI DRIVING LICENCE [BY YOURSELF]
FROM TWO-YEAR (DRIVING LICENCE) TO FIVE-YEARS DRIVING LICENCE

Have to prepare the documents as follow

  1. Original two-year Thai driving license
  2. Passport with non-immigrant visa (original and photo copy)
  3. Original present resident address in Thailand certify from embassy / immigration bureau (valid for 1 year) or work permit (with present resident address identified) and original photo copy or work permit with original and photo copy
  4. Original medical certificate (5 diseases form) from clinic or hospital (valid for 1 month)

Procedure

If you are disqualified in no.4 – full step following

  1. Check the documents
  2. Print the application form
  3. Take only a physical test
  4. Pay the fee / take a photo and print driving license
    (fee 505 baht) additional (change name or address charge 50 baht)

Remark

  1. In case of driving license expired more than 1 year
    – take a theory test
  2. In case of driving license expired more than 3 years

INTERNATIONAL DRIVING LICENCE UNDER GENEVA CONVENTION A.D.1949

FOR CAR AND MOTORCYCLE DRIVING LICENSE.

  1. Passport with non – immigrant visa : original and photo copy
    **non quota visa alien identity book (red book) : original and photo copy
  2. Residence certificate from embassy , immigration police office, government organization , international organization , work permit (with present resident address identified) and original photo copy
  3. Five -years Thai driving license : car and/or motorcycle driving license : original and photo copy
  4. Pictures 2 photos 2 inches (not more than 6 months)
  5. Fee : 505 baht
    if you don’t come by yourself : authorise letter with fee stamp 10 baths *** international driving license valid for 1 year.***
